What To Expect

This workshop will introduce you to the timeless craft of leatherworking – the art and practice of transforming raw leather into functional and beautiful handmade goods. You’ll walk away with your own handcrafted piece and the skills to continue exploring this creative medium.

The first part of the workshop focuses on understanding and preparing your materials. You’ll learn to identify different types of leather and choose the best one for your project. After selecting your material, you’ll prepare it by cutting it to the desired shape and size using professional-grade tools.

Next, you’ll dive into the foundational techniques of leather crafting. Using awls, punches, and chisels, you’ll create stitching holes and practice saddle stitching – a method that is both strong and decorative. Our instructor will guide you step-by-step, ensuring your stitches are clean, secure, and professional-looking.

Once your piece is stitched together, you’ll personalize it through embossing, dyeing, and finishing techniques. Whether you choose to imprint a pattern, add color, or create a polished edge, this is your chance to make your leatherwork uniquely yours.

Finally, you’ll finish your project by assembling and detailing it. Whether you’re crafting a wallet, keychain, or pouch, you’ll leave the workshop with a completed item that reflects your personal style. It’s a tangible reminder of your creativity and hard work!

We’ll also take a short break during the session to recharge. Feel free to bring a snack or enjoy the refreshments provided in our workspace. Use the time to chat with your fellow crafters and share inspiration for future projects.

By the end of the class, you’ll not only have a beautiful leather piece to take home but also a solid understanding of leatherworking basics and the confidence to tackle more projects on your own. Whether this is the start of a new hobby or a skill you’ve always wanted to try, you’ll leave with the satisfaction of creating something by hand.
